ToyCon 2015

It was that time of the year once more for one of the most anticipated events of the year. To be specific, it was the time again for ToyCon, the biggest gathering of toys, comics, collectibles, and other geekery on display and the people who are fond of them. And as usual, SM Megamall was the place to be for this event.

As the Urban Roamer has covered this event in the past, there is nothing much else to say about what this is about, though it has occurred to me recently that in a way, this can be considered our country’s answer to the famous annual San Diego Comic Con in the US. And from what I’ve learned, the organizers are aiming to make this event a worthy equivalent of the aforementioned San Diego event. After all, ToyCon prides itself being Asia’s biggest convention related to geek stuff.

The event was not short of interesting sights and sidelights to see. Check some of the photos below to see the highlights of the recent event.

the Good and the (Breaking) Bad
Super Sentai/Power Ranger and Kamen Rider customized head masks
customized Funko Art figures of Pinoy pop culture icons
booth of iFlix, Southeast Asia’s answer to Netflix
ToyCon is often the venue of choice for promoting upcoming films, especially those based on comics and toys, to be released in the country like Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man
character-themed wall/head lights to bring some character to your home
in the wake of the events of Game of Thrones, this area has become a sort of a memorial

As always, the event was fun despite the cramped atmosphere as the event has been outgrowing its traditional venue that is the SM Megamall Megatrade Hall area. But all this will soon change next year when ToyCon 2016 will finally make its long overdue move, this time at the bigger SMX Convention Center in the Mall of Asia complex.

Looking forward to next year’s ToyCon which is undoubtedly going to get bigger and hopefully better.

hopefully, more Minions too
