It is that time of the year once again when the country’s biggest toy convention hits town. And the Urban Roamer was there as usual at ToyCon 2014, held at the usual venue which is the Megatrade Hall of SM Megamall last June 20-22.
For an entrance fee of P130, one would be overwhelmed with the crowd in this event with hundreds of exhibitors present to showcase their stuff: toy merchandisers, comic book retailers, geek-related apparel, collectible retailers, and gaming companies to name a few.
Of course, there are the impressive collections of toys and life-sized figures from retailers, rabid collectors, and even those who those figures themselves.
This year’s ToyCon also celebrates 75 years of the comic book hero from DC Comics, Batman. Thus a number of exhibits here pay homage to this iconic character and his allies and villains, not to mention a tribute to one of the Batman artists who happens to be a Filipino.
In addition, this year’s ToyCon prominently features two of the most highly-anticipated films that will come out later this year: the latest Marvel Films’ feature “Guardians of the Galaxy” and the sequels to the successful manga-turned-anime-turned-live-action-film “Rurouni Kenshin” entitled “Kyoto Inferno” and “The Legend Ends.”
No ToyCon event will be complete without the presence of cosplayers, whose attendance are either a sight to behold or a cause of annoyance due to the crowding they cause…depending on your POV there. Unfortunately, my device’s battery constraints prevented from taking as much photos as I wanted, save for a couple of snapshots.
Nevertheless, it has been an eventful ToyCon as always. Looking forward to next year’s ToyCon.

An Urban Roamer’s tip: If you wish to attend ToyCon without the hassles of the long queues or big crowds, it is advisable to visit the venue on Day 1 (preferably in the morning as soon as it opens) or the last day which is usually Day 3, especially in the afternoon to before closing.
