Dining and Partying Like A Viking

It is the Urban Roamer’s birthday month. well it’s June 2 to be precise. And like what a growing number of denizens have been doing as of late, I have chosen to spend my birthday at one of country’s most popular (if not the most popular) buffet restaurant: Vikings Luxury Buffet Restaurant.

First opened its doors in 2011, Vikings started out as this big buffet restaurant located at San Miguel by the Bay in the Mall of Asia complex. Its location at first proved to be quite a challenge as it is actually a lengthy walk to get there if you are coming from the Mall of Asia building itself. But as it turned out, location eventually became a non-issue as more and more people were going there for the wide array of sumptuous food choices that they offer.

Each lunch or dinner at the restaurant was a grand feast of food and drinks that people began to discover what it’s like to dine and celebrate like what real Vikings had done. Then again, Filipinos are kindred spirits as well when it comes to celebrations so there is that sense of familiarity there.

What made Vikings even more popular was its birthday promos wherein a guest who is celebrating his/her birthday on that day not only gets to eat for free, but also treated to a song number courtesy of the people there.

In time, Vikings began to expand as it brought the dining experience to different parts of the metropolis and beyond as well. Currently, there are Vikings restaurants located in SM City Markina, SM City North EDSA, SM Megamall, and SM Lanang Premier down south in Davao City, the first branch set up outside Metro Manila.

At the same time, Vikings has helped usher a new phase in the metropolis’ dining scene as it brought about not only new players, especially in buffet dining, but also made some long-existing ones reshape their strategies in the wake of Vikings’ success.

For the meantime, there seems to be no end in sight for Vikings as it expands further while continuing to keep more tummies and taste palates happy.
